Tottenham Hotspur are interested in snapping up non-league talent Nico Lawrence – but Southampton appear to be the favourites for his signature.

That’s according to Hampshire Live, who claim that Lawrence is attracting major interest from Southampton, Bournemouth and Tottenham.

It’s stated that Lawrence, a central defender for Glebe FC, has been on trial with Southampton as he looks to win a contract.

The 19-year-old defender was in the Kinetic Academy before heading to Glebe, and his performances are attracting interest from clubs much higher up than the Southern Counties Eastern League.

Southampton may have Lawrence in the building, but it’s claimed that Tottenham and Bournemouth have both told Glebe of their interest.

The defender could now earn a big Premier League move, with Tottenham likely seeing Lawrence as a talent for the future.

This appears to be part of a new strategy from Tottenham, who appear to be focusing more and more on non-league talents.

Tottenham recently took Ramsgate striker Joshua Ajayi on trial as they weighed up a deal for the goalscorer.

Tottenham then made a move for Lewes winger Ollie Tanner, but the former Arsenal talent rejected a late January move to Spurs.

Lawrence is the latest non-league talent on Tottenham’s radar, with three targets in such a short space of time seemingly pointing towards a concerted effort to target non-league players.

That’s an interesting strategy, and Tottenham may hope to find the next Michail Antonio or Jarrod Bowen, two players who have risen up from non-league.

Southampton took three points from Tottenham on Wednesday night, and will now hope to make sure that they beat Spurs to Lawrence too.
