Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min enjoyed Carabao Cup success last night – at the expense of international teammate Hwang Hee-chan.
Tottenham made the trip to Molineux on Wednesday night as they took on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men raced into a 2-0 lead in the first half, but were pegged back to 2-2.
Tottenham did prevail on penalties in the end, but the night was a lot trickier than it could – or even should – have been.
Hwang and Son meet
The game meant that Tottenham star Son was able to play against his compatriot Hwang Hee-chan.
It’s not often we get to see two South Korean stars facing off against each other in the Premier League.
That’s exactly what happened on Wednesday night though, and the players clearly loved it.
Son and Hwang exchanged shirts at the end of the game and hugged on the pitch as well as being seen talking to each other in the tunnel.
Hwang could have joined Son at Tottenham
Playing against each other was something of a novelty for the duo, as they’re more used to playing on the same team.
That could have happened at club level too.
The London Evening Standard reported in 2018 that Tottenham had been scouting Hwang for a move to North London.
The idea was for him to link up with Son in the Tottenham attack having already played together for South Korea.
That didn’t happen, with Hwang now at Wolves, but Son was understandably delighted to see his friend last night.
