Tottenham Hotspur want Sofyan Amrabat and are ready to open talks for the midfielder – but Fiorentina now want €50million (£43.5million).
That’s according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, who claim that Tottenham are ready to open negotiations for Amrabat.
The problem for Tottenham is that Fiorentina’s asking price has now rocketed all the way up to €50million (£43.5million).
That was to be expected; Amrabat has been simply sensational at the World Cup with Morocco and his stock has never been higher.
The 26-year-old has been one of the best players in Qatar over the last month and many expect him to make a big transfer in 2023.
Tottenham appear to be keen on signing him and Fabio Paratici is ready to engineer talks – but this will be much more expensive than it would have been a year ago.
Tottenham wanted Amrabat in January 2022
Spurs fans will remember that Tottenham were chasing Amrabat earlier this year.
Calciomercato reported that a loan deal with option to buy for around €15million (£13million) was in the pipeline, but the deal fell through.
Tottenham signed Rodrigo Bentancur instead and you have to say that Spurs will be delighted with their deal for the Uruguayan.
Yet it now seems that Paratici and co have been keeping close tabs on Amrabat and still fancy signing him after all.
Tottenham now face paying around £30million more than they were planning to last year though, which is a huge increase – one that some may want Spurs to avoid.
Amrabat has been incredible at the World Cup, with manager Walid Regragui branding him a ‘world class’ player.
Yet this is the best form of Amrabat’s career and it has come in such a short space of time.
There are many players in past World Cups who have looked like the real thing but failed to replicate that form.
Some will fear that Amrabat will be that kind of player and £43million is a huge price to pay for somebody who wasn’t really considered one of Serie A’s best before this tournament.
