Tottenham Hotspur want Sofyan Amrabat but the Fiorentina midfielder prefers to sign for their Premier League rivals Liverpool as things stand.

That’s according to French outlet Foot Mercato, who claim that Tottenham are ‘advancing their pawns’ in the race to sign Amrabat.

Antonio Conte is understood to be a big fan and Tottenham are one of the most interested clubs when it comes to signing the Moroccan.

However, it’s noted that Jurgen Klopp plans to speak to Amrabat’s representatives again having already met them once.

Liverpool and Klopp have allegedly made Amrabat a priority target alongside Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.

Right now, Amrabat has the preference of signing for Liverpool over Tottenham and anyone else, seemingly attracted by a move to Anfield.

Fiorentina are at least trying to extend Amrabat’s contract but that is going to be difficult after his stunning World Cup.

Interest is at an all-time high and Fiorentina may well find that Amrabat wants to seize his big chance in 2023.

Liverpool move makes more sense for Amrabat

Tottenham actually targeted Amrabat long before his outstanding World Cup campaign with Morocco.

A loan deal with a €15million (£13million) option to buy was negotiated in January of this year but the deal fell through.

Tottenham unsurprisingly still like Amrabat and must have bene dazzled by his World Cup heroics in Qatar.

Yet with Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Yves Bissouma all in the mix, signing another central midfielder doesn’t really add up.

If Tottenham were going to sign a midfielder, it should really be a more attack-minded, creative option instead of a defensive machine like Amrabat.

Liverpool just makes more sense, especially with Amrabat able to play that lone holding midfielder role in front of the defence.

Fabinho hasn’t been at his best this season and Amrabat could be ideal competition for the Brazilian star.

Maybe Amrabat realises that Liverpool can offer him a better role than Tottenham, and that’s why he prefers Anfield right now.
