Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want Benfica talent Gedson Fernandes.
Tottenham Hotspur have fared well under Mauricio Pochettino once again this season, but it’s clear that they need reinforcements in the transfer market this summer.
Spurs have reached the Champions League semi-finals and still have a shot at reaching the final, whilst a top four finish is also on the cards for Pochettino’s men.
Yet having gone more than a year without any new signings, this summer is the time for Spurs to step up their recruitment and bring some fresh faces into the squad.
With that in mind, Correio de Manha in Portugal report that Tottenham want Benfica talent Gedson Fernandes, and a €45million (£39million) bid has been submitted by Spurs.
Fernandes, 20, has come up through the Benfica ranks, and is the latest prospect to show huge potential, alongside Ruben Dias, Florentino Luis, Joao Felix and Jota.
Landing the Portuguese midfielder would be hugely exciting, and he could step into the void left by Mousa Dembele, providing skill, strength and a turn of pace through the middle of the park.
Fernandes is exactly the sort of signing Pochettino would love, as he’s a promising youngster with potential to be tapped into, and he’s already being branded as a better box-to-box midfielder than ex-Benfica talent Renato Sanches.
It’s a huge fee, and that brings a certain level of risk. Yet Moussa Sissoko’s absence has shown that Spurs need more athletic ability in midfield, and Fernandes certainly brings that, whilst having the potential to become an absolute star in North London.
