Paulo Gazzaniga is playing out of his skin while Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a new goalkeeper.

If there’s been a silver lining to what happened to Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris, it’s Paulo Gazzaniga.

The French goalkeeper was ruled out for the rest of the calendar year last month after suffering a nasty elbow injury in a 3-0 defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion.

Losing such a big player could’ve been devastating for Tottenham, but they’re in safe hands it seems.

Gazzaniga had a career-best performance in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat by Liverpool a couple of weeks back. It could and would have been a grisly result for Mauricio Pochettino’s side if not for the Argentine goalkeeper, who produced a string of truly fine saves to deny the hosts at Anfield.

The 27-year-old joined the North Londoners in the summer of 2017, but has only made nine Premier League appearances up until now.

He has gone from being Pochettino’s third-choice option to being a key part of the first XI right now. Gazzaniga has paid his dues but, if rumours are believed, the Lilywhites could be planning something that’ll no doubt annoy him.

According to The Sun, Tottenham are looking at £35 million-rated Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Onana, who impressed against the English side last season in the Champions League, is undeniably a fine goalkeeper, but so is Gazzaniga on recent evidence and he might feel angry if his time to shine is cut short by the arrival of the 23-year-old.

As of right now, Gazzaniga hasn’t put a foot wrong in Tottenham’s first XI and until he does, Pochettino doesn’t need to be thinking about strengthening that position.

The Argentine, whose side are 10 points adrift in the race for Champions League qualification, has more pressing concerns at the moment.
