Atletico Madrid reportedly want to sign the Tottenham Hotspur ace.

Tottenham Hotspur's Christian Eriksen

According to Italian football expert Alfredo Pedulla, Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen.

And Spurs should use the Spanish club’s interest in the Dane to try and snare Saul Niguez.

The 24-year-old is a truly elite player, and he really could evolve into a superstar under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino.

Versatility

Saul is a central midfielder by trade, but he can also operate on either wing.

Tottenham don’t have the biggest squad in the world, so having someone like the Spaniard could prove to be a really useful asset for the north London outfit.

He’s left-footed

Eriksen was strong on his left foot as well as his right, and if he leaves the club this summer, Pochettino won’t have any left-footed midfielders.

This could lead to a lack of balance in the Spurs side.

Erik Lamela is left-footed, but he plays in a more advanced role, so having Saul in the middle of the park would give Tottenham a natural balance.

Defensive responsibility

The Spain international has been drilled defensively by Diego Simeone over the past few years, so he understands the responsibility of putting in a shift.

Mauricio Pochettino expects his team to defend from the front, so Saul’s understanding of his defensive duties will be crucial.

Saul has a £135 million release clause with Atleti, according to the Sun.

Now, Tottenham would obviously not be able to afford that fee for one player, but if the Spanish side truly want Eriksen, Daniel Levy can use that as leverage.

The 24-year-old is a really top class performer, and if Tottenham manage to bring him in as the Dane’s replacement, it would have to be considered as excellent business for the north London club.
