Tottenham Hotspur can surely not ignore how well Ryan Sessegnon is currently doing in the Championship.

It is starting to become absolutely no surprise when you see that Fulham have won, and that victory has been inspired by the brilliance of Ryan Sessegnon, with the 17-year-old putting his much more experience teammates to shame on a frequent basis.

On Tuesday, the teenager took his tally for the season to seven goals in the Championship as his brace helped the Cottagers beat Ipswich Town 4-1, with Sessegnon also providing an assist during the victory – his fourth in the league this term. And Tottenham surely cannot avoid sitting up and taking notice of his form and frightening development.

The Daily Mirror reported back in December that Spurs were considering spending £20 million on Sessegnon if Danny Rose swapped Wembley for Manchester United during the January transfer window.

And given the latest news surrounding Rose, perhaps Tottenham should consider doing all they can to try and get the 27-year-old off their books and replace him with the Fulham starlet.

After Rose was missing from Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for their Premier League clash with Swansea on the same night that Sessegnon grabbed the headlines yet again, Football London reported that the Spurs man had suffered an injury to the same knee that had left him sidelined for 10 months last year.

Football London’s suggestion that he is set to miss the next two games at least perhaps hints that he will not be out for anywhere near as long this time around, but it arguably suggests that if United come calling during this window, Tottenham would certainly be wise to consider letting him head to Old Trafford if there are any concerns about how reliable he is fitness-wise.

Replacing Rose with Sessegnon during this window may appear a gamble. But given how well Sessegnon is playing right now, holding fire on pursuing a deal for the Fulham wonderkid may actually be the greater gamble in the long-term.
