Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have both been linked with the Crystal Palace winger.
According to a report from the Sun, Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head with Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, but if Spurs are wise they should simply step aside and let their North London rivals overpay for the Ivory Coast international.
Zaha is a decent player but he is not worth the £30million-plus currently being touted, especially when you consider any transfer tussle is only going to push the price even higher.
There is no doubt Tottenham need additional quality on the wing, but a return of six goals and 11 assists in 35 matches this season is nothing to write home about.
Zaha is better than the player he was at Manchester United, where a change of manager put paid to his chances of blossoming at Old Trafford. But neither is he one of the best wide players in Europe – which is what Tottenham should be aiming for now.
English-based players are often overpriced and Zaha is no different, but Tottenham should look to the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Monaco for inspiration, where summer signing Ousmane Dembele and youth product Kylian Mbappe have blossomed.
Zaha is not in their league, and if Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino casts his net a little wider he could find a future superstar, leaving Arsenal to get a player who has not come close to justifying his price tag thus far.
