Arsenal are being linked with a move for Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron.
Having failed to bring in any new signings over the summer, it’s now imperative that Tottenham Hotspur make moves in January – and hijacking one potential Arsenal move could be a good start.
The Gunners are being heavily linked with a move to sign Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron, with the Paraguayan starring in Major League Soccer.
Almiron, 24, has hit 12 goals and 13 assists in 32 games for Atlanta in this MLS season, and his superb performances have attracted major interest.
The Daily Star now report that Arsenal are closing in on an £11million agreement to sign the Paraguayan international in January, with the midfielder allegedly England-bound.
Darren Eales, Atlanta’s president, is quoted as saying that Almiron’s future is settled, and he will be signing for an English club in January – but Spurs should use their links to make their own move.
Eales is a former Spurs secretary and director, and made the move to Atlanta thanks to Mauricio Pochettino’s relationship with Atlanta boss Gerardo Martino, building strong links between the two clubs.
Anton Walkes was loaned out by Spurs to Atlanta in 2017, and Spurs should now look to use their links to try and make a bid for Almiron, before any move to their North London rivals is confirmed.
The alleged fee is an absolute bargain, and adding another creative midfielder would help take some pressure off Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli whilst adding a player whose best years appear to be ahead of him.
Arsenal appear to be far down the line with a potential move, but Spurs have existing links to Atlanta thanks to Eales, and whilst they may have to let a non-homegrown player go to bring in Almiron, it’s a move worth exploring.
