Tottenham Hotspur wanted Mohamed Salah back in 2015, so should move for him again before Liverpool bring him back to the Premier League this summer.
Mohamed Salah is being pursued by Liverpool, but should Tottenham make a move?
A report from the Daily Mail has suggested that Liverpool plan to step up their pursuit of Roma winger Mohamed Salah this coming week. But perhaps Tottenham should act quickly and try and scupper the Reds’ hopes of landing the Egyptian.
Back in June 2015, the London Evening Standard reported that Spurs wanted to sign Salah after his disappointing spell at Chelsea, though the Blues were concerned about selling him to a Premier League rival.
Salah has been brilliant in Serie A this season
Salah ultimately joined Roma on loan that summer, making the switch permanent one year later. And while Chelsea may have felt unconcerned about the thought of letting the 24-year-old go at the time, his form this past season has been sensational.
In all competitions, Salah has scored 19 goals, predominantly from the wing, while also contributing 11 assists in Serie A, so it is no surprise that Jurgen Klopp wants to bring him to Liverpool in a deal that they hope will cost no more than £35 million, according to the Mail.
Tottenham should try and scupper Liverpool’s bid to sign Salah
However, Tottenham should not allow their rivals to bag Salah’s signature uncontested and should revive their interest from two years ago as Mauricio Pochettino looks to build a squad that can go from competing on several fronts, to winning trophies on a regular basis.
Salah has been brilliant in Italy this term, and would surely relish the chance to prove himself in England after his difficult time at Stamford Bridge.
And, while it is much easier said than done, if he can replicate the form he has shown for Roma after making a move to Tottenham, Spurs will surely stand a much greater chance of winning the amount of silverware their team clearly has the potential to obtain, and the kind of fee involved would quickly seem a bargain.
