Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to hand a new contract to Mousa Dembele.
Tottenham Hotspur want Mousa Dembele to commit his future to the club, according to The Sun.
It has been reported that Dembele is set to open to talks with Tottenham over a new contract, with his current deal running out at the end of next season.
The British tabloid has also claimed that the Belgium international wants to push towards the £100,000-a-week mark in terms of his salary.
According to Spotrac.com, the 30-year-old earns £55,000 per week as salary at Tottenham, with the midfielder having Spurs from Fulham in the summer of 2012 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £15 million.
Proceed with caution
Dembele is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and although there have been injury issues, there is no doubt that his performances this season have been brilliant.
Handing the former Fulham star a new long-term deal would make sense, but at the same time, Spurs should be careful of not meeting his reported wage demands of close to £100,000 per week.
That would be almost twice of what the Belgian is reportedly on right now, and if Spurs meet his demands, then it could lead to other key players in the team asking for bumper pay rise.
