The Barcelona midfielder has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
There isn’t expected to be much activity involving Tottenham Hotspur in this month’s transfer window but one player who is being linked with the club is Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.
As reported by The Daily Telegraph, Tottenham retain an interest in signing Gomes, who is likely to be pushed even further down the pecking order at Barcelona following the arrival of Philippe Coutinho.
Part of the Portugal squad that won Euro 2016, Gomes is impressive at retaining possession but he lacks dynamism and wouldn’t add much to Tottenham’s side at present.
Tottenham already possess a host of creative players, such as Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela, and, while Gomes tends to operate slightly deeper than that trio, there is no real need for Tottenham to pursue a deal for him.
In fact it would be of greater benefit for Tottenham to continue developing Harry Winks and giving the youngster as many opportunities to impress as possible as he is capable of progressing into a fine player.
Bringing in Gomes would halt Winks’ development and, arguably, wouldn’t improve Tottenham significantly, indicating that Tottenham should instead put their faith in the youngster.
