Tottenham Hotspur want Sheffield United’s David Brooks, and should consider throwing Josh Onomah in as part of the deal.

Tottenham appear to be in the driving seat to secure the signing of one of the brightest talents currently coming through in the Football League right now, with The Sun reporting at the weekend that they are in negotiations with Sheffield United regarding a potential deal for David Brooks.

The 20-year-old – who is currently injured – has been excellent for the promotion-chasing Blades this season, scoring two and providing three assists in the Championship, and The Sun suggests that he has caught Spurs’ eye and the Premier League side hope to pay £10 million plus extras for the starlet.

It would be unsurprising if Sheffield United were less than keen to lose Brooks for that amount especially as the Daily Mirror reported in October that Liverpool, Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle were also keen on the youngster, so the Blades could perhaps use that amount of interest to drive the price up.

To sweeten the deal therefore, Spurs should arguably consider offering Josh Onomah to Chris Wilder’s men in the hope that that helps get a move across the line.

Onomah has endured a difficult time on loan with Aston Villa this season, and the interest in Brooks surely hints that he could find himself even further down the pecking order upon his return to White Hart Lane.

Having already struggled to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, Onomah would be forgiven for worrying about what the interest in Brooks means for his future, and Spurs may feel that they have little use for him if they land the Sheffield United starlet.

So if they have to improve their offer as the talks continue, perhaps including Onomah in the deal may be a very smart way for Tottenham to ensure that they remain in pole position to land one of the best youngsters in the Championship.
