Tottenham Hotspur are one of the sides to have been linked with Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa in recent months.

Karl Robinson appeared to put a number of teams on alert recently by suggesting to the Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust that his gut feeling is telling him that young defender Ezri Konsa will leave The Valley during the January transfer window.
Given that admission, it would hardly be a surprise if a number of sides were contemplating stepping up their interest in the coming weeks to try and steal a march, and one of the teams that should arguably take their interest to the next level is Tottenham.

And Mauricio Pochettino only needs to look at a couple of players currently doing extremely well in the Premier League to realise that now is the time to step up the pursuit of Konsa.

Firstly, Joe Gomez has shown in recent weeks exactly why Liverpool bought him from the same team in 2015, also proving to be the man of the match during England’s friendly with Brazil on Tuesday.
Gomez came through the same academy of course, and like the Reds man, Konsa is capable of playing virtually anywhere across the back line, so that versatility would undoubtedly make him an asset to whichever team ends up winning the race.
And of course, Tottenham know just how well signing a youngster from a League One side can turn out, having bought Dele Alli from MK Dons – who were managed by Charlton boss Robinson at the time – and quickly giving him the platform to become one of the most impressive players in the top flight.
It is too soon to suggest that Konsa could reach anything like Alli’s level, but the signs certainly suggest that he has an extremely bright future ahead of him – and Tottenham should make sure that they are the side that give him the platform to realise his potential.
