Mauricio Pochettino has a lot to think about ahead of the January transfer window but resolving the issues at right-back should be his priority.

Tottenham’s biggest problem this season has arguably been at right-back. Selling Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid in the summer came back to haunt Mauricio Pochettino who has been forced to use the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Moussa Sissoko in that position.

Spurs are currently sixth in the league table, 10 points behind leaders Liverpool. Their performances, apart from the one against Crystal Palace, haven’t quite been to their full potential and Serge Aurier’s red card at the weekend highlighted another massive issue at right full-back.

Pochettino’s priority in the January transfer window has to be a new right-back and AC Milan’s Davide Calabria would be an incredible signing. The Italian outfit are in serious trouble after losing four of their first six games in the league so far.

Calabria, like most of his teammates, has been poor so far but that should not change one’s opinion on the 22-year-old. The Italian is one of the most exciting defensive prospects in the world and his performances over the last two seasons have shown that he is capable of playing for a top side.

Tottenham and fellow Premier League side were heavily linked with Calabria this summer. CalcioMercato reported that the Italian would snub any approaches from the two English clubs in the summer but with Milan struggling like they are, Spurs could have a chance to nab him in January.

The youngster isn’t as adventurous in attack as Aurier but he would bring an incredible balance between going forward and staying in his own half. Defensively, Calabria is very sound and is incredibly composed even when under pressure.

Still only 22, Calabria still has a lot to learn and his potential is endless at the moment. A manager like Pochettino who has helped young players grow during his time at Spurs would be the ideal man for the Italian to play under and Tottenham should consider making a move for him in January.
