Former Tottenham Hotspur target Adam Masina is reportedly on the brink of joining Watford.

According to The Daily Mail’s Live Transfer Blog [16/06/2018, 12:40], Watford are on the brink of signing one-time Tottenham Hotspur target Adam Masina.

It looks like the 24-year-old defender will join the Hornets for around £8 million from Bologna after undergoing a medical with the London club on Friday.

Considering the price, Tottenham should be hoping that he does not prove a major success in the Premier League.

The Mirror reported back in November that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wanted the former Italy Under-21 left-back as a potential replacement for Danny Rose, who was linked away in January.

The 27-year-old could yet leave North London this summer and it wouldn’t reflect well on Pochettino if the man they were originally interested in winds up dazzling in England’s top flight.

In the modern transfer market, £8 million is a drop in the water – especially for the Lilywhites – and if Masina impresses at Watford then the obvious question will be why Tottenham didn’t renew an interest.

One could argue that Pochettino needs a better left-back than Ben Davies to compete with Rose anyway, and those in North London should be hoping that the Morocco-born defender wasn’t the answer all along.
