The AS Monaco winger is perfect for Tottenham Hotspur but with other members of the French side’s squad tipped to leave, have Spurs missed their chance?
Tottenham Hotspur need a new winger and AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar is the ideal candidate.
Aged just 21, but already a star for club and country, the wide man was expected to be the subject of a transfer tussle this summer as clubs across Europe sought to strengthen their hands. And while that may still happen in due course, one wonders if Spurs have missed a trick not going in hard and fast for a player who would immediately transform their attacking thrust.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are fresh off the back of an outstanding campaign, but an additional winger and a new striker will surely be top of the Tottenham manager’s wish list this summer.
With 14 goals and 17 assists last time out, Lemar is the real deal, and his experience in the latter stages of the Champions League means he would slot seamlessly into Tottenham’s starting XI, bringing additional quality and creativity in the process.
The problem for Tottenham is that Monaco’s march to the Ligue 1 title and Champions League semi-final has seen half their impressively assembled squad linked with an exit, and if the North London club wanted to steal a march they should have gone in quickly for Lemar, before Monaco turned their attention to negotiating potential exits for the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
The French side are not going to want to sell all their star names, and if they lose two or three key players in quick succession, their resolve to keep hold of Lemar will only strengthen.
Tottenham should not be focusing on more unproven wide men after moves for Clinton N’Jie and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou fell flat.
Lemar is the answer, and only time will tell if Tottenham have waited too long to chance their hand.
