The Lyon ace would be an excellent addition for Tottenham Hotspur.
Mauricio Pochettino seems to be intent on strengthening his Tottenham squad this summer.
Spurs signed Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon earlier this month, as well as Jack Clarke from Leeds United, before sending the youngster back to the west Yorkshire club on a season-long loan.
The Argentine’s business seems to be far from done, however.
Sky Sports claims that Tottenham want to sign £70 million-rated Real Betis ace Giovani Lo Celso, whilst Calcio Mercato suggests that they have offered £36 million plus Toby Alderweireld for Roma ace Nicolo Zaniolo.
Another target is believed to be £45 million-rated Dani Ceballos, according to AS.
Are there any better options out there for Tottenham, however?
The answer to that question is yes.
Spurs should consider making a move for Lyon ace Houssem Aouar as a cheaper alternative to the three names mentioned.
He’s young
At 21, Aouar has the footballing world at his feet. Pochettino is well known for his preference of signing young players with great talent, and the France under-21 international certainly fits into that category.
New Dembele
Aouar is a central midfielder by trade, and he has exceptional technical ability. He proved just how hard he is to dispossess when in possession last season, especially during high-profile Champions League games.
And he would be the ideal long-term replacement for the recently departed Belgian.
Lyon connection
With Ndombele having played with the 21-year-old whilst at Lyon, the duo would surely be able to forge a wonderful partnership in central midfield for Tottenham.
Aouar racked up seven goals and eight assists in 37 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon last season, and that kind of attacking output from midfield could prove to be crucial for Spurs next season.
According to Football.London, the Frenchman will cost around €40 million (£35 million), and in today’s day and age, that would represent excellent value for money.
And he might just be a better option for Tottenham than the names that they have been linked with already this summer.
