Would Tottenham really rather have Vincent Janssen as second choice ahead of Jermain Defoe?
Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe is proving to be just as dangerous in front of goal as ever, netting eight goals in 17 games for the struggling side.
At the age of 34 he is still in demand, and The Sun report West Ham are plotting a January bid to re-sign their former academy striker.
Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe
It would be a surprise if Sunderland made the suicidal move to sell Defoe, but if he is available at the right price, then Tottenham should also consider bringing back the former England international.
Defoe spent more of his playing career at Tottenham than he did West Ham, becoming their highest ever goalscorer in European competitions.
West Ham may be able to offer him more regular starting opportunities, but Tottenham can provide Defoe the chance to battle at the top half of the table, and a chance to earn Champions League qualification for next season.

The temptation to play in Europe’s elite competition for Spurs next season should be a real temptation for Defoe, and could persuade him to snub the Hammers, while this season he could also play Europa League football.
Tottenham already have one prolific striker in Harry Kane, but summer signing Vincent Janssen has failed to step up so far when called upon, with his only goals coming from the penalty spot.
Defoe could become the perfect stop gap for the next 18 months, ensuring Tottenham are not left short in case of a Kane injury, and give Janssen time to adjust to the English game without the same pressure.
