Tottenham should act quickly and take advantage of Atletico’s transfer ban by pursuing Alexandre Lacazette deal

Alexandre Lacazette looked to be bound for Atletico Madrid, but the La Liga side’s transfer ban should tempt Tottenham Hotspur into a bid.

The Daily Mirror suggested back in May 2016 that Tottenham had entered talks for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, and believed that they were in pole position to bag the Frenchman’s signature.

Unfortunately for the Spurs fans who wanted to see Lacazette arrive at White Hart Lane, nothing came of their reported interest. And those same supporters may have feared that their chances of signing the 26-year-old were all but gone as he looked destined for a move for Atletico Madrid this summer (via Independent).

However – while Daniel Levy may perhaps not be interested this time around – recent events involving the La Liga club have presented Spurs with an opportunity they should do everything they can to make sure they don’t pass up.

The Independent reports that Atleti will serve a transfer ban this summer, leaving the path clear for other clubs to make a move for Lacazette, and Tottenham should undoubtedly be one of those clubs.

Tottenham need further options going forward, and in Lacazette, they would be signing one of the most ruthless strikers currently plying their trade in Europe.

The France international has scored 100 Ligue 1 goals during his professional career, but his record in the last two seasons is especially frightening, with 49 goals coming in just 64 games.

And if Mauricio Pochettino could add Lacazette to his current attacking options, then it could certainly be argued that Tottenham would boast one of the most exciting clusters of strikers across the continent and would undoubtedly have a greater chance of winning silverware.

Europe’s biggest clubs have been given a second chance to land the seemingly previously-Atletico bound forward, and Tottenham would arguably be making a mistake not trying to capitalise on the opening.
