Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate Samuel Shashoua has taken to social media with an emotional farewell message after news of his permanent move away from Spurs was confirmed on Friday (official Tottenham website).

Spurs announced that they had reached an agreement with Spanish Segunda Division side CD Tenerife for the transfer of the 20-year-old attacking midfielder, whose Tottenham contract was set to expire next summer.

Shashoua, who had been at Tottenham for eight years, spent last season on loan in the Spanish third tier with Atletico Baleares and enjoyed a fruitful spell, scoring six goals in 38 appearances in all competitions, but at Spurs he did not make a single first-team appearance, according to Transfermarkt.

Taking to Instagram and also sharing his message on Twitter, the youngster wrote: “After 12 amazing years at tottenham, it’s time to say goodbye. I want to say a massive thank you to all the coaches, staff and players, who have helped me grow as both a player and person over these years. I have made friends for life and have made some unforgettable memories. Goodbye and good luck.”

A number of Tottenham fans took the time to reply and wish him all the best:

Tenerife have been promoted to La Liga on four occasions, including a 10-year stint from 1989 to 1999, and managed to finish as high as fifth in the league table on two occasions during that period, but have not played in the top flight since 2010.
