Tottenham Hotspur are now set to juggle a late tussle between AS Monaco and Stade Rennais for the transfer of Davinson Sanchez with Ange Postecoglou pushing him out.

That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that Sanchez is ‘set up’ to secure a transfer to Rennes. But Monaco are making a last-ditch effort to beat their Ligue 1 rivals to agree terms with Tottenham. Neither outfit has so far yet structured a move that satisfies Spurs enough.

Sanchez has no long-term future in north London despite featuring in their first two Premier League squads. Postecoglou also introduced the 27-year-old after 14 minutes at Brentford to replace Cristian Romero. Sanchez was an unused substitute against Manchester United.

Postecoglou wants Tottenham to source a transfer for Sanchez

Tottenham are striving to sell Sanchez before the market slams shut as Postecoglou must offload the centre-half to fund his own late additions. The Spurs boss is keen to get another defender to follow Micky van de Ven and Ashley Phillips through the doors at Hotspur Way.

Sanchez was close to securing a transfer to Spartak Moscow earlier this summer before their discussions with Tottenham collapsed. Fernando Villarreal, the Colombian’s agent, told Euro Football Russia in July that ‘this is the end of the negotiations’ despite a fee being agreed to.

Spartak Moscow and Spurs agreed on terms for the defender

The Evening Standard also reported in July that Tottenham accepted a £13m bid by Spartak for Sanchez’s transfer. But the defender had not agreed to personal terms and he remained unsure of heading to Russia. Galatasaray, Real Betis and Sevilla were also interested in him.

Sanchez has even had interest from other Premier League clubs, with 90min linking Wolves, Fulham and Nottingham Forest this month. The trio of teams had all approached Tottenham to carry out formal enquiries, too. But the 27-year-old has so far remained in north London.

Now, Sanchez is ‘set up’ to secure a transfer to Rennes but Monaco have joined the host of teams interested in the Tottenham outcast. Spurs not demanding a vast sum to sell a player they signed from AFC Ajax for £42m in August 2017 has tempted many clubs to target him.
