Tim Sherwood has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur can’t attract players like Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jorginho, like Arsenal have done, to possibly win them the Premier League title.

All of those three players were signed up by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal this season and Tim Sherwood spoke about how they have joined to ‘win the Premier League title’.

Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, after winning four titles, swapped Manchester City for the Emirates in the summer, whilst Jorginho, who has a European Cup and Europan Championship to his name, was snapped up from Chelsea in January.

All three have been pivotal in Arsenal currently sitting top of the Premier League table with an eight-point lead, including that dramatic late winner from Jorginho at Villa Park.

But perhaps the two most impressive transfers were Jesus and Zinchenko because, two Champions League quality players, joined a fifth-placed side, even though it was Spurs who finished fourth last term.

Nonetheless, with Tottenham, who recently sacked Antonio Conte, in the mud, both on and off the field, Tim Sherwood spoke about their recruitment and academy compared to their London rivals, as he told talkSPORT.

“I think what they (Spurs fans) want is an identity to their football club right now,” said Sherwood. “They look down the road at Arsenal and they see a host of top-draw young players coming through their academy and recruitment that seems to have been correct over the last few seasons.

“Bringing in Jesus, Bringing in Zinchenko and Jorginho. For one reason, they want to win. They want to win the Premier League. They brought in three players who know how to do it.

“When have Tottenham ever gone out and bought players of that ilk? They haven’t done it. They can’t afford to keep wasting money on average players.

“But Arsenal can afford it. Do you know why? Because they bring their academy players through. They cost a square root of zero.”

LONG-TERM PLANNING FROM ARSENAL

Everything seemed a mess at the Emirates when Mikel Arteta walked through the doors in the winter of 2019.

From Granit Xhaka being stripped of the captaincy to the dark clouds still hovering above after Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery’s departures.

A lot needed to be done to transform the club, from the culture, style of play, recruitment and even the academy.

But whilst Spurs brought in the likes of Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason for a brief time, Nuno Espirito Santo and the recently-sacked Antonio Conte, those across the road remained patient with Arteta during his rocky times and now they are going to reap the rewards of it.
