Weeks remain of the summer transfer window and there’s no doubt that Tottenham will be one of the major talking points for one obvious reason.

But aside from potential outgoings, one name that has cropped up lately on Tottenham’s radar has been Watford’s speed machine, Ismaila Sarr, as reported by Eurosport.

If anyone knows the 23-year-old’s game inside-out then it’s his club captain, Troy Deeney, who once claimed that ‘you can’t replicate his pace and power’, as he told the Watford Observer after his side had beaten Liverpool in March 2020.

Well, Sarr has taken his game to much higher heights since then and that was proven over the weekend when Watford beat Aston Villa 3-2 upon their return to England’s top-flight.

Nonetheless, these are Deeney’s previous comments on Sarr, as those Spurs rumours now emerge.

“You can’t replicate that pace and power,” said Deeney. “He cost £40million for a reason.

“He’s a really good player, he’s got a lot to learn, he’s still got room to grow, but this is what Watford do.

“We buy players that have potential, we did it with Richarlison and people of that ilk, so hopefully he continues to learn, continues to get better.

“It’s his first season in English football and he’s taken to it like a duck to water.”

Watford paid £40 million for Sarr’s talents (Sky Sports) back in 2019, so that’s a marker as to how much they would want if they have to sell their star man.

It would show ambition from those in the Spurs boardroom if they put money down for Sarr’s talents because that price tag will probably only get higher next summer.

If Sarr produces the goods for Watford this season, and keeps them in the division, then Spurs won’t be the only ones chasing him in 12 months.

So, perhaps taking the risk now would be a wise move for the North London club, although, a lot of their attention will also be on keeping star man, Harry Kane.
