Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on Gareth Bale’s future at Tottenham.

The Welsh winger re-joined Spurs on a season-long loan at the beginning of the season, but since the day he’s joined there’s been speculation about him extending his stay.

For the longest time, it seemed as though he was heading back to Madrid, but Romano is now reporting that an upturn in form as of late has changed Tottenham’s view on the player.

“It’s a loan with no buy option, so they will have to discuss together, Tottenham and Real Madrid,” Romano said.

“Until two or three weeks ago Tottenham were not happy with Gareth Bale, they expected something different from the player and from the professional, so they wanted something different from Gareth Bale.”

“They always said they’re waiting until the end of the season to make their final decision on Gareth Bale, so they are still waiting and now the situation seems different. He seems confident and in a good period, so they hope he can continue like this.

“Real Madrid are open to selling Gareth Bale on a permanent deal next summer, so let’s see what happens, but at the moment Tottenham say they will decide at the end of the season, they were not happy with the player two weeks ago, now the situation seems different, but only in June will they decide with Real Madrid, but 100 per cent sure Real Madrid are open to discussing selling Gareth Bale.”

This is certainly very interesting to hear.

A deal is seemingly there to be done if Spurs want it, but whether or not it happens remains to be seen.

Bale is of course on massive wages, so financially it will be a real strain, but if he continues to play how he has lately, he could be worth every penny.

It seems as though no decision will be made until the end of the season, so the Wales international may well have a few big months ahead of him.
