Tottenham wanted Ruslan Malinovskyi and Atalanta have now taken the decision to sell the playmaker during the January window.

Tottenham attacked a number of key areas during the summer window.

New wing backs on both sides, a new goalkeeper, new left-sided centre back more midfield depth and a versatile striker.

Antonio Conte is still angling for more new signings though and it’s clear that he still needs a creative midfielder.

Tottenham wanted Ruslan Malinovskyi

Tottenham’s midfield options are pretty workmanlike and hardly the kind of players that will create chance after chance in the final third.

Spurs fans are hoping for a creative midfielder to arrive very soon and one interesting name popped up over the summer.

Tutto Atalanta reported in August that Tottenham were working on a deal to sign Atalanta playmaker Ruslan Malinovskyi.

It was suggested that Tottenham wanted a loan-to-buy deal but Atalanta wanted straight cash with talks open between the two sides.

Spurs signed two Atalanta players in 2021 as Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero arrived in North London.

Fabio Paratici looked into another deal by targeting Malinovskyi and Corriere Bergamo even suggested that Malinovskyi wanted to join Tottenham.

The transfer deadline passed without a deal being done but Malinovskyi may wish a move had materialised.

The 29-year-old has started just four Serie A games this season as well as making six substitute appearances.

It has become abundantly clear that Malinovskyi just isn’t in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans.

Tutto Atalanta now claim that Malinovskyi is unhappy at Atalanta and wants to leave in January, a request Atalanta have accepted.

That means Tottenham will be able to move in for Malinovskyi again in January if they still fancy him.

It is though noted that Marseille and Nottingham Forest also wanted to sign Malinovskyi over the summer, so we could see those two clubs re-enter the rac.e

A midfielder with a powerful left-footed shot, Malinovskyi could provide something different to Conte’s side but you can understand the reluctance to commit long-term to a player approaching 30.
