Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing Rodrigo Bentancur has immediately shown fans what he can do by scoring for Uruguay against Venezuela.

Antonio Conte wanted to land a new midfielder in January and a host of names were linked with moves to North London.

In the end, Fabio Paratici struck to secure the signing of Bentancur, striking a €25million (£21million) deal with Juventus.

Paratici was sporting director at Juventus when they signed Bentancur, so signing him again isn’t a huge surprise.

The Uruguayan will be looking to made a big impact at Tottenham having seen his form dip a little at Juventus.

Praised for his ‘amazing’ technical ability, Bentancur should bring some class to the Tottenham midfield.

One factor that may worry Tottenham fans is that Bentancur isn’t much of a goal threat from midfield, scoring just four times in 247 club games.

On Tuesday night though, Bentancur gave Tottenham fans a glimpse of what he can produce in the final third.

With just 50 seconds on the clock as Uruguay took on Venezuela in a World Cup qualifier, Edinson Cavani made a break down the right flank.

Cavani’s cross wasn’t dealt with and Bentancur drilled home a superb finish to set Uruguay on their way to victory.

That was Bentancur’s first ever goal for Uruguay at the 47th time of asking, so whilst this isn’t a regular occurrence, Bentancur has shown that he can do it.

Uruguay ended up winning 4-1, with Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez joining Bentancur on the scoresheet.

Making a new signing is always exciting, but seeing them score just over 24 hours after signing is something else.

Tottenham have seen what Bentancur can do, and it’s now down to Antonio Conte to try and get this kind of attacking threat out of his new midfielder.
