Robin Quaison won’t be moving to the Premier League this summer despite being linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley as the striker is heading to Saudi Arabia instead, as reported by Kicker.

With all due respect to the Sweden international, Quaison’s arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium wouldn’t have eased any tension felt by an increasingly troubled fanbase.

The former Mainz hero is no up-and-coming wonderkid a la Dusan Vlahovic, nor is he a proven Premier League goalscorer like Danny Ings.

But what Quaison lacked in reputation and big-name clout, he more than made up for in terms of quality and affordability. Mainz’s all-time record goalscorer became a free agent last week as his contract expired.

And, with Tottenham not exactly flush with cash – the covid crisis has stretched the club’s finances to the limits at a time when they are also under pressure to pay back £600 million debts incurred from their new stadium – Quaison’s availability appeared an enticing option.

Should Tottenham have gone harder for Robin Quaison?

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham and Burnley both showed an interest in the former Palermo forward last summer, when the Mainz talisman was valued at £14 million.

Quaison wasn’t on the market for long, however, putting pen to paper today with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq.

And while we don’t mean to cast aspersions, we assume Quaison isn’t heading to the Middle East for sporting reasons.

With Harry Kane’s future uncertain – and with deals for Ings or Vlahovic far from certain – time will tell whether Tottenham should have done more to bring Quaison to England.
