Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to offer Borussia Monchengladbach speed machine Jonas Hofmann an enormous contract to tempt him into moving to north London – making him one of the club’s best-paid players.

German newspaper SportBild claim Spurs are interested in signing the 26-year-old winger who is in the form of his life for Gladbach, scoring six goals and creating seven more in just 15 league and cup appearances.

Spurs could be set to enter the transfer market in the coming days after losing both Harry Kane and Dele Alli to long-term injuries, while Son Heung-min may not return until February 1.

The report claims Spurs are willing to offer Hofmann €6million a year. That equates to just over £5.2million – or £100,000 a week, making him one of the club’s highest earners.

Spotrac claim only five Tottenham players earn £100,000 or more. Kane is the club’s highest earner on £200,000 a week, while Son gets a huge £140,000 a week. Erik Lamela takes home £105,000, while Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris are on £100,000.

It would see Hofmann join Vertonghen and Lloris on £100,000 a week, if Spurs were able to generate a move. The report claims Hofmann only earns around £30,000 a week, meaning a move to north London would more than triple his wages.

The uncapped German would be earning £25,000 more than playmaker Christian Eriksen, and £20,000 more than Toby Alderweireld. He would get almost double Alli’s wage, which stands at £55,000 a week.
