Tottenham reportedly want to sign Southampton right-back Tino Livramento in the summer – and are willing to offer two players in a deal to get him. A player, that Theo Walcott recently compared to Gareth Bale.
Livramento, 19, has been in stunning form since joining the Saints. A £5million signing from Chelsea last summer, despite not playing a single senior match for the Blues, Livramento has since been first choice.
The England Under-21 man has started pretty much every game he has been available for in the Premier League, under Ralph Hasenhuttl. His only substitute appearance coming after spell on the sidelines after an injury.
CalcioMercato report that Tottenham are ready to offer Harry Winks or on-loan Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers in a deal for Livramento. It is unclear how much Southampton would want for their London-born ace.
What is clear, is that he is rated highly at Southampton. His teammate and ex-Arsenal man Walcott spoke highly about him to TalkSPORT earlier this season, comparing him with another ex-Saints man – in Bale.
“Do you know what, he reminds me a little bit of Gareth when he came through as a full-back,” Walcott said. “He’s so strong with the ball and very clever and technically he is fantastic. I feel he will have a very good career.”
Walcott on Livramento: Same Southampton, Tottenham path?
Bale moved to Tottenham having only clocked up 45 appearances at senior level for Southampton – and went on to be a Spurs icon. Surpassing 200 appearances in his first spell, he returned last term to score 16 in 34 games.
Livramento is a different player to Bale. The Real Madrid forward, who is out of contract in the summer, is best in the front three although he did start out as a full-back. Livramento is currently playing as a wing-back.
While the positions are currently different, the initial path is similar – especially if Livramento returns to his home city in London. A move will be tempting and Spurs do need a right-sided defender. The next Bale?
