Well, it looks like Cameron Carter-Vickers might be finally leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
The powerful USA international was training with Jose Mourinho’s senior side during pre-season, and even played in some friendlies, but the writing has been on the wall for Carter-Vickers for the longest time.
Still only 22, Carter-Vickers hasn’t made a competitive appearance for Spurs since January of 2017, and has being loaned out no fewer than five times since then.
But now he’s reportedly set for a permanent departure, with Team Talk claiming that he’s close to joining Bournemouth.
It’s going to be a disappointing end in North London for a player who once promised so much.
Back in 2016, former Tottenham powerhouse Jan Vertonghen said this to ESPN about his then-teammate: “He’s still young but he’s an absolute beast. He’s a real defender. He’s strong one-on-one, in the air, he’s not afraid and he can play from the back. That’s the style the gaffer wants to see from him.”
He definitely is physically imposing, but this could be a case of another young player being hyped without much substance, like so many before him.
Even with Mourinho needing a centre-back this summer following the departure of Vertonghen, Carter-Vickers was never going to be looked upon as a potential replacement for the Belgian.
But as mentioned, he is still so young, with his whole career ahead of him, and a lot of Lilywhites fans will hope he can fulfill his potential at Bournemouth.
Because as we’ve known for some time, it won’t be at Tottenham.
