Impressive performances against the likes of Barcelona showed the teenager had the temperament to play against the very best, as well as the talent.
Skipp’s opportunities faded as Spurs reached the business end of the season last year, and now he has to state his case once again.
After one game, he is off to a positive start.
Skipp was selected as a starter for Tottenham in their 3-2 win over Juventus, alongside Dele Alli.
At just 18, Skipp showed once again he has the potential to be an elite player for Spurs.
He was highly effective in helping Spurs maintain possession and pace the tempo of the game.
His movement and reading of the game was smart and he did enough to show he means business and wants to kick on this season.
Competition for places in midfield at Tottenham means it won’t be easy, but Skipp will get his chances.
Spurs should strongly consider giving him a prominent role in Thursday’s friendly with Manchester United too, to see if he can build on his impressive showing.
It’s unlikely Skipp will overtake Harry Winks or Moussa Sissoko to be in the conversation to start the first league game of the season, but if he continues to shine, he may at least cause Mauricio Pochettino to consider it.
If he was needed, he has shown so far that he would not let the team down.
