Tottenham Hotspur are ready to ramp up their move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher if Pierre-Emile Højbjerg leaves.
Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher could emerge as a top target for Tottenham Hotspur before Friday’s transfer deadline.
That is according to The Times, who claim that Tottenham are ‘likely’ to step up their interest in Gallagher this week.
That is dependent on one factor though – a potential exit for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
It’s suggested that Manchester United are interested in signing Højbjerg and Spurs will be hoping to sell.
Højbjerg hasn’t started a single Premier League game this season and doesn’t seem to be a key player under Ange Postecoglou.
United are keen given that Højbjerg played under Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag with Bayern Munich’s second team.
If that move progresses ahead of the transfer deadline then Tottenham would pursue Gallagher as a replacement.
The report adds that Chelsea have made Galllagher available after signing both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Chelsea want £45million for Gallagher, with Spurs seemingly needing to clear out room – both in the squad and in the budget – by offloading Højbjerg.

Conor Gallagher could bring something different to Tottenham midfield
Gallagher, hailed as ‘fantastic’ by former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, has started each of the Blues’ first three Premier League games.
It seems bold to suggest that Chelsea have him available, with Mauricio Pochettino seemingly valuing him highly.
Chelsea may also be reluctant to let Gallagher join a bitter rival in Tottenham but money may well talk.
If Tottenham do secure Gallagher, then they would be adding a real goalscoring threat from midfield.

Gallagher scored eight times from midfield for Crystal Palace during how 2021-22 season, showing his ability when given a starring role.
That is something Tottenham will be factoring into their pursuit of Gallagher, with Ange Postecoglou keen to spread the goals around.
Gallagher would give Tottenham a more proven goalscoring threat from midfield than the likes of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma.
Gallagher would be another homegrown player too, just like James Maddison and top target Brennan Johnson.
This one sounds like it won’t be an easy deal but Tottenham will hope for progress on Højbjerg’s exit in order to go for Gallagher.
