Ryan Sessegnon has told Football Daily that he was undergoing two sessions a day with his own fitness coach, outside of Tottenham Hotspur training in pre-season in order to keep his body fit and ready for Antonio Conte’s side this term.

Sessegnon, 22, has suffered numerous injuries in the past – marring his early Spurs years. But after a couple of muscle issues towards the end of last season under Antonio Conte, it seems enough is enough for the England Under-21 star.

The left wing-back has remained fit so far this term. The £25million signing has been available for all of Tottenham’s nine games, making six appearances and starting four times. On Thursday evening, he played against Italy for the 21’s.

In an interview earlier this week – he spoke about how he was told to go away in the summer and make his body more robust. It seems Sessegnon has taken that onboard, doing two sessions a day with his own coach, outside of Spurs.

“I knew, coming into a new season the gaffer can really set out his team, I had to get my body right. Double sessions every day, with my fitness guy. We start around 7.30am, and then another at 3.30pm. Long days, but it is paying off.”

For Tottenham fans and Sessegnon himself, it will have been incredibly frustrating to pick up injury after injury. Get some momentum up, then find himself on the sidelines again. Spurs fans are now starting to see the best of him.

Sessegnon is an incredible talent and Conte’s system should be perfect for the winger. If he can continue to remain injury free, and build up that shield against muscle issues, then he could be a long-term solution for Spurs on the left.

But it must be said that Sessegnon is only 10 games – for club and country – into a new season. Things change fast, but perhaps rotation with Ivan Perisic is helping the ex-Fulham man recover when needed.
