Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier is wanted by Roma with Jose Mourinho now making contact after a potential January deal.
Jose Mourinho is believed to be making moves for Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier ahead of the summer transfer window.
That is according to Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Roma are looking to pull off a January move for Dier.
Chris Smalling is injured and Mourinho wants to bring another centre back to the Eternal City in 2024 – and Tottenham may just receive a call.
Jose Mourinho moving for Tottenham defender Eric Dier
Tuttomercatoweb now report that Mourinho wants to reunite with Dier having worked together at Tottenham between 2019 and 2021.
It’s stated that Mourinho has now initiated contact with Dier to discuss a move to the Stadio Olimpico in January.
Dier is out of contract at the end of the season and he may well be tempted to leave Tottenham.
That may be a cut-price deal in January – which would suit what Roma want – or a move as a free agent next summer.
The problem is that Roma need to let somebody go in order to bring Dier in, with the Spurs man wanting a three-and-a-half-year deal.
It’s added that Dier may be left stranded; signing for Mourinho is one thing, but he is expected to leave Roma in the summer and the Serie A side don’t want to be stuck with a player who isn’t in the plans under the next manager.

Tottenham may now be reluctant to let Dier go
Dier was out of the plans earlier this season and didn’t seem to have a role to play under Ange Postecoglou.
Suddenly, Dier is very much needed at Tottenham.
Cristian Romero is suspended and Micky van de Ven is injured, so Dier came on to play a vital role against Chelsea on Monday.
Dier may now be needed as experienced cover moving forward, especially with no timescale on Van de Ven’s return.
The situation may change by January but it’s now difficult to imagine Spurs just letting Dier walk away in the middle of the season.
