Dennis Cirkin has admitted that he was nervous playing for Tottenham Hotspur against Ipswich Town last weekend, as per his comments on the club’s official website.
Spurs may have only been playing a friendly match in an empty stadium, but it was still a big occasion for the teenager, who has been on the verge of a first-team place for some time now.
Jose Mourinho really seems to have taken a shine to Cirkin, and he has included the youngster in numerous match day squads now.
Cirkin even received game time on the pitch as Tottenham beat Ipswich 3-0.
And the youngster admits that he was delighted to play a part, even though the experience was nerve wracking at first.
“It was a dream come true, really,” he said. “I’ve been at the club for eight years now, and this is what I’ve been working for, to get a chance and hopefully take it as well.
“It was an amazing feeling. I was a little nervous but once you get out onto the pitch you forget about all that and just focus on your game.”
Cirkin managed to push ahead of fellow teenager Ryan Sessegnon at Tottenham towards the end of last term, such has been the impact of his performances at development squad level.
The left-back appears to have an extremely bright future, and it may only be a matter of time before he is getting more regular game time.
Cirkin may even get more action over pre-season in the weeks ahead, with Tottenham scheduled to play Reading next.
