Tottenham Hotspur wanted to check up on Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ko Itakura but he is now out injured.
Ko Itakura remains a target for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur after targeting him for Celtic.
That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that Spurs have been keeping tabs on Itakura for a while now.
Tottenham are likely to be in the market for another centre back when the January transfer window opens.
Cristian Romero’s suspension and the injury to Micky van de Ven have exposed Tottenham’s lack of depth and another signing is needed.
Tottenham Hotspur like Ko Itakura
TEAMtalk now claim that Tottenham were ready to check in on the progress of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ko Itakura.
The Japan international is understood to have been on the Tottenham radar since his time at Schalke.
Postecoglou’s knowledge of the Japanese market only adds to the interest though and he remains on Tottenham’s radar.
Two goals in the first three games of the season was a fine start for Itakura and Tottenham wanted to watch him again.
The problem is that Itakura is now out with an ankle injury and has missed Gladbach’s last four Bundesliga games.
It’s unclear just when Itakura will be back, meaning Tottenham’s scouting plans will have to wait.

Postecoglou wanted Itakura at Celtic
Tottenham’s interest in Itakura dates back to before Postecoglou’s arrival, but he will be a key factor in this pursuit.
The Daily Record reported in 2021 that Postecoglou wanted to sign Itakura – then of Manchester City – for Celtic.
Whilst other Japanese players arrived, Itakura headed to Schalke, who ended up backing away from a permanent move.
The Manchester Evening News reported in 2022 that Celtic were back in for Itakura, but Postecoglou missed out again as Gladbach pounced.
Itakura is ‘incredibly fast’ according to Hans Kraay Jr and may well fit what Postecoglou wants to do at Tottenham, so he is a name to keep an eye on for January and beyond with that long-term interest far from disappearing.
