Tottenham Hotspur are offering Pedro Porro a considerable wage increase as they attempt to fend off both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

These claims come from Portuguese newspaper Record in two separate reports this weekend.

The first suggested that Barcelona and Atletico are both keen to sign Sporting star Porro and are readying proposals to sign him.

However, those offers are only expected for the end of the season and not right now, giving Tottenham a potential window of opportunity.

Record add that Tottenham are willing to give Porro huge wages in order to make the move from Lisbon to London.

Porro currently earns around €1.8million-a-year (£30,000-a-week) at Sporting but Tottenham would be willing to offer €5million-a-year – around £85,000-a-week.

That’s a staggering offer for Porro, who could nearly triple his wages with a move to North London.

Would Barcelona be willing to pay that kind of money in their financial situation? It seems unlikely, and the same goes for Atletico.

Tottenham aren’t yet willing to pay Porro’s £40million release clause though and with Sporting standing firm, a deal is at risk.

Rival interest leaves Tottenham in tricky situation over Pedro Porro

Tottenham’s right wing back situation is, with all due respect, a bit of a mess.

Emerson Royal just isn’t cut out for the role and whilst Matt Doherty fares well, he isn’t the long-term solution for Spurs.

Djed Spence could be the long-term solution but the summer signing from Middlesbrough has yet to even start a game under Antonio Conte.

The ideal situation for Tottenham now is probably to sell Emerson, loan out Spence and bring in a quality option like Porro.

The would allow Spence to develop and hopefully come back as homegrown competition for Porro as Doherty heads into his 30’s.

These situations rarely work perfectly though and Tottenham need to get wheeling and dealing if they’re to give Conte what he wants.

Porro has shown that he can provide what Tottenham need; in just 21 games for Sporting this season, the Spanish wing back has racked up 10 assists.

The former Manchester City youngster is also just 23, meaning he would have the potential to develop into a star for years to come.

Porro seems to tick Tottenham’s boxes but it’s unlikely that Spurs will have four right wing backs on the books at the same time, with the tricky nature of this chase only complicated by major competition from elsewhere.
