The Spurs left-back impressed as Mauricio Pochettino’s side overcame Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals.
Tottenham Hotspur ace Danny Rose has received glowing praise by Arsenal legend Paul Merson for his impressive performance against Ajax on Wednesday night.
The Spurs left-back started in the Champions League semi-final second leg at the Johan Crujiff ArenA and skilfully set up Lucas Moura for his first of the evening.
Admittedly, Rose did concede a corner under little pressure early on which led to Matthijs de Ligt’s opener but after that he put in a great display and was a threat on the attack.
“Danny Rose was unreal in the second leg,” wrote Merson in the Daily Star. “He put in a proper full-back’s performance. He attacked well. Defended well. Made good decisions.”
De Ligt’s goal on five minutes and Hakim Ziyech’s 35th-minute contribution left Tottenham with a seemingly insurmountable mountain to climb at half time, 3-0 down on aggregate having lost the first leg 1-0 in North London.
However, Moura’s stunning hat-trick, the third coming deep into injury time after the minimum five minutes had elapsed, sealed a Spurs victory for the ages and put Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the final.
Tottenham will face Liverpool – themselves stagers of a dramatic comeback against Barca the day before, coming back from a 3-0 first-leg deficit to win 4-3 on aggregate – at Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday 1 June.
