Tottenham Hotspur-owned Kazaiah Sterling is nowhere to be seen at Sunderland.
Sunderland are in action tonight and Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino might cast a keen eye over Jack Ross’s squad selection.
The Sunderland boss took Tottenham youngster Kazaiah Sterling to the North East on a half-season loan in January.
But fast forward a couple of months, it really isn’t working out for the 20-year-old and you wonder whether Pochettino regrets the transfer.
Sterling hasn’t made a Sunderland squad in precisely a month, having been an unused sub in a 1-1 draw with Blackpool on February 12.
He hasn’t actually played since a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon nine days prior to that, getting a half-an-hour cameo which clearly didn’t go well, by virtue of the fact he hasn’t been seen since that day.
Asked by the Chronicle if the Spurs Under-23 star had any reservations about dropping down to League One, Sterling said in January: “No, not if it meant I got gametime. That was what was really important to me, and as long as I had the chance, I was willing to do it.”
The Black Cats visit Barnsley tonight but it seems unlikely that Sterling will make the trip. And if he doesn’t, it’s just another example of why Pochettino will regret sending him to the Stadium of Light.
He went out on loan for experience and, well, this isn’t doing a whole lot for his development.
