Tottenham want Oscar Gloukh but a move for the playmaker may be complicated after he signed a new Maccabi Tel Aviv contract.

Antonio Conte loves proven players and that was clear with the ready-to-go signings of players like Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison over the summer.

Tottenham do still need to look for young talents though and that was seen over the summer with a deal for Will Lankshear from Sheffield United.

Djed Spence also arrived over the summer and Fabio Paratici needs to be finding top young talents to lure to North London.

Tottenham want Oscar Gloukh

One player that popped onto the Tottenham radar over the summer was Maccabi Tel Aviv playmaker Oscar Gloukh.

The Sunday Mirror (10/07, p74) reported that Tottenham were looking to strike a deal for Gloukh and made contact to try and win the race for his signature.

Gloukh, 18, shot to prominence during the UEFA Under-19 European Championships over the summer, scoring three goals – including against England – as Israel made it to the final against the Three Lions.

Former Israel international Gil Vermouth has even called Gloukh ‘special’, so you can forgive Tottenham fans for being excited.

The transfer window ended without a deal being done though and there have been questions about Gloukh’s future.

Gloukh’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season and you can be sure that teams around Europe will have been lurking with intent.

Maccabi Tel Aviv have now thrown up a surprise – they have confirmed a contract extension with Gloukh until the summer of 2025.

There are a couple of trains of thought here.

One is that Gloukh decided it wouldn’t be fair to leave Maccabi for next to nothing so this new deal protects his value for an eventual sale.

The other is that Gloukh just thinks it’s too soon to leave Israel and would like to continue his development in Israel for a while yet.

Either way, Gloukh has a future far beyond Maccabi and Tottenham would be wise to stay in the race, especially with a creative midfielder needed in Antonio Conte’s squad.
