Tottenham Hotspur have joined Newcastle United in the race to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey in January.
Everton defender Ben Godfrey appears to be a man in demand amid claims Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United want him.
That is according to a report from 90Min, who claim that Godfrey could leave Everton in the January transfer window.
Godfrey is down the pecking order at Everton and has played just once in the Premier League this season.
Everton may well cash in on Godfrey in order to raise funds – and he won’t be short of suitors.
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United want Ben Godfrey
90Min report that Tottenham and Newcastle both fancy landing Godfrey during the January transfer window.
It’s added that Bournemouth, Burnley, Crystal Palace and Rangers are also keen on Godfrey.
Tottenham are in the market for another centre back to support Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Eric Dier.
Van de Ven’s injury against Chelsea on Sunday highlighted Tottenham’s need for more pace at the back.
Spurs seem to be focusing on homegrown defenders with Godfrey joining Trevoh Chalobah, Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabioyo on the wish list.
Godfrey cost Everton £20million back in 2020 having shown real potential during his time at Norwich City.

Godfrey pace could be vital for Ange Postecoglou
The 25-year-old now seems to be out of Sean Dyche’s plans and he may be seen as a versatile defender who can operate across Ange Postecoglou’s back line.
One key factor here is that Godfrey has impressive pace, something which is highly valued in Postecoglou’s high line.
Michail Antonio has previously hailed Godfrey as ‘rapid’, and that may be what is appealing to Tottenham.
This may not seem exciting; the idea of a fringe Everton player heading to Tottenham, who are chasing a top-four place this season.
Godfrey still has some untapped potential though and seems like a better fit under Postecoglou than Sean Dyche, so maybe a cut-price deal in January could be worth a punt for Tottenham.
