Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as a replacement for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
Douglas Luiz is emerging as a top target for Tottenham Hotspur as they look to replace Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Luiz is one of the players Tottenham fancy signing to boost their midfield.
It’s claimed that Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is expected to leave the club soon.
The report claims that there have been ‘positive developments’ over Højbjerg joining Atletico Madrid in recent days.
Progress on Højbjerg leaving Tottenham is thought to be ‘slow’ but the Dane fancies the move and a deal is ultimately expected to materialise.
Tottenham are therefore looking at other midfielders to replace Højbjerg with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and now Aston Villa ace Luiz wanted.
It’s unclear whether Villa would even be open to selling Luiz but Tottenham may try their luck with a summer bid.

Arsenal failed to sign Douglas Luiz last year
A move to North London would be interesting for Luis given Arsenal’s major interest in him last summer.
The Gunners were desperate to sign Luiz to bolster Mikel Arteta’s midfield options.
Sky Sports reported that Arsenal offered £20million, £23million and £25million for Luis but Villa didn’t budge.
Arsenal have now gone in another direction and signed Jorginho and Declan Rice since their Luiz interest.

A key factor here is that Luiz signed a new long-term contract in October and Villa are under no pressure to sell.
The Brazilian – hailed as a ‘fantastic’ talent by Steven Gerrard – was vital for Villa last season, bagging six goals and six assists in 37 Premier League games.
Unai Emery will surely want to build around Luiz moving forward and will have no plans to sell the 25-year-old.
Ange Postecoglou may well be aware of former Manchester City midfielder Luiz from his time in the City Football Group but Tottenham will face an uphill battle here.
