Insiders at Tottenham are reportedly less optimistic about Antonio Conte signing a new contract beyond 2023, with little movement taking place in recent weeks in trying to keep the Italian manager in north London.
According to the Athletic, sources at Spurs are sounding out that they are now less confident than they were earlier in the year about Conte penning a new deal with Tottenham, with the 53-year-old only signing an 18-month contract when he was appointed last year.
One of the highest-paid managers in football with a reported weekly wage of £288,000-a-week, the prospect of Conte leaving Tottenham is once again on the agenda, something that many supporters and pundits thought might happen come to the end of the 2022/23 season.
Conte’s hot-headed reputation saw the Italian manager leave Inter Milan in the summer of 2021 despite just winning the Serie A title with the Nerazzurri, and there are now fears that something similar could happen in 2023 with Tottenham given this latest contract update.

Indeed, Conte has arguably been the best manager Tottenham have ever had in the Premier League era given the Italian’s incredible CV and reputation for winning silverware. However, with every pro comes a whole list of cons, and Spurs were aware that the project with the former Chelsea coach could have been a short-lived one.
The north London side made a similar mistake with Jose Mourinho, an appointment that many supporters predicted was doomed to fail right from the start. And whilst Conte is providing better results for Tottenham, the fear that has always been there of the Italian quitting and leaving without warning is once again there.
Tottenham have to do all they can to sign Conte to new contract

Signing Conte down to a new contract is arguably the most important move Tottenham can make between now and the end of the season, and a lack of movement in recent weeks could be a killer in keeping the Italian in north London beyond the current campaign.
After all, Conte has brought a winning mentality to Tottenham the likes of which hasn’t been seen in quite some time, and with 2023 set to be a big year for Spurs, Daniel Levy has to do everything possible to keep the former Inter boss at the club, a decision which could set the Premier League side on the road to actual success.
