A claim has been made that Tottenham Hotspur are no longer set to appoint Johannes Spors as their brand-new sporting director.
This revelation emerged as a result of Fabrizio Romano, who gave an update on Spurs’ director of football situation, as a replacement for Fabio Paratici is yet to be brought in.
While it was claimed two weeks ago that Tottenham Hotspur were indeed interested in Johannes Spors, that does not seem to be the case anymore.
Tottenham not set to appoint Johannes Spors
Currently, the 40-year-old operates as the Global Sporting Director for a number of clubs such as Hertha Berlin, Genoa, Standard Liege and Melbourne Victory.
Famously, Spors was responsible for making a number of smart signings at low fees at RB Leipzig, such as Dayot Upamaceno for just £8.6 million (BeSoccer).
While this would have made Johannes Spors the right fit at Tottenham Hotspur, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that both parties are ‘no longer in talks.’

It has been claimed that Spors has a ‘different vision’ for the role, which is why the discussions have broken down.
Tottenham will struggle to attract any manager without a sporting director
While it is not the end of the world for Tottenham to have witnessed their deal to appoint Johannes Spors fallen through, their need for a brand-new sporting director cannot be overstated.
In fact, it remains a surprise that the club have not acted quicker and brought in a figure to replace Fabio Paratici already.
Be it any manager that Spurs are plotting to bring in ahead of next season, they are likely to back away due to the absence of a director of football.
As brilliant as any coach can be, it is impossible to build a project and eventually contend for trophies without a proper recruitment structure in place.
If Tottenham do not get a sporting director in imminently, they could really be playing with fire.
