Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have been boosted amid claims Chelsea are backing away from Marcus Thuram.
That’s according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who claims that Thuram wants to leave Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer this summer.
However, Chelsea are no longer interested and a summer move to Stamford Bridge won’t be happening.
Plettenberg notes that Chelsea were ‘really interested’ in signing Thuram during the January transfer window.
However, the Blues now have ‘other plans’ in attack and seemingly no longer wants to lure Thuram to West London.
That means other clubs may now have a golden chance to sign Thuram – and that means a chance for Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

Marcus Thuram makes sense for Tottenham and Newcastle
Thuram is bound to attract plenty of interest from Premier League clubs.
The Frenchman has been in great form this season, bagging 14 goals and four assists in 25 appearances for Gladbach.
Available for free this summer, Thuram will be receiving plenty of offers in the coming weeks and months.
90Min claimed in December that positive talks had been held over a move to Newcastle United.
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United were also thought to have spoken to Thuram’s representatives.
Thuram’s versatility to play up top or out wide on the left flank will appeal to a number of clubs, especially Spurs and Newcastle.
Spurs have Arnaut Danjuma on loan until the summer, and he can fill similar roles to Thuram.
Danjuma has yet to really feature for Spurs though and given that he will cost a fee to join from Villarreal, a free transfer for Thuram may appeal more.
As for Newcastle, they lack some attacking depth and adding a flexible forward like Thuram can give Eddie Howe some more options up top.
Chelsea may be backing away, but don’t be surprised to see the 25-year-old lining up against the Blues next season.
