Tottenham Hotspur should prioritise a move for the Real Madrid midfielder.
Tottenham fans are growing increasingly more frustrated with their club’s lack of transfer activity this summer, with just nine days remaining until the start of the new Premier League campaign.
According to a report from the Sun, Mauricio Pochettino’s move for key target Jack Grealish could be set to end in failure, with Chelsea entering the race for the Aston Villa man’s signature.
Spurs fans shouldn’t be too perturbed, though.
Tottenham need to add some real established quality this season, if they are to challenge for the Premier League title, and it is debatable as to whether Grealish fits into that category.
The north London outfit should instead focus all of their efforts on bringing Real Madrid ace Mateo Kovacic to White Hart Lane.
The Croatian is available for around €60 million (£53.3 million) this summer, according to Spanish publication Marca, and whilst that would be a serious amount of money for Tottenham to spend on one player, he possesses the kind of ability that undoubtedly would take Pochettino’s side to another level.
Kovacic can play anywhere from the deep-lying midfield role to the more advanced number 10 position.
He is wonderfully cool and composed when in possession of the football, and possesses exceptional technique, as well as an impressive array of passing.
The Madrid ace is also an experienced winner, having won three Champions Leagues with Los Blancos, and that kind of winning mentality would surely rub off on the rest of the Spurs squad.
And if Poch manages to bring him to north London, it could turn out to be a really significant piece of business for Tottenham.
