Tottenham Hotspur are still recovering from losing the Champions League final to Liverpool on Saturday night, and their next move will be fascinating.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in Saturday’s Champions League final, with Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi getting themselves on the scoresheet.

Spurs showed great approach play, but just didn’t have the cutting edge to break Liverpool open, and it’s clear that Mauricio Pochettino needs new blood.

Pochettino hasn’t signed a player for almost 18 months now, and Liverpool have already shown Tottenham exactly how to respond to a Champions League final defeat.

Just two days after Liverpool lost last year’s final to Real Madrid, they confirmed the £43.7million signing of Brazilian midfielder Fabinho (Telegraph), immediately bolstering Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

That deal showed that Liverpool were ready to strengthen where they needed to, and pay what it took to get back to the Champions League final again. Not only did they do that, but they won it this time.

Tottenham have to take a leaf out of Liverpool’s book and strike quickly for a big-money signing, showing fans that their trip to the Champions League wasn’t a one-off and that they’re approaching the summer window with intent.

Of course, a deal today – two days after the final, like Fabinho’s move – is unlikely, but splashing the cash on a player like Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso would really give Spurs fans the belief that Pochettino and co are launching a serious bid for silverware next season.
