Tottenham must send scouts to Anfield tonight to watch Alex Telles

Tottenham Hotspur should be looking at Porto left back Alex Telles this evening.

Tottenham Hotspur are back in action tonight, hosting Manchester City in the Champions League – but that doesn’t mean their scouts shouldn’t be out and about looking for potential targets.

Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to shock City at Tottenham’s new stadium tonight, and progress in the Champions League may just help Spurs attract new signings this summer.

After two windows without an addition, it’s surely time to bring in a new face or two this summer. Left back is an area of concern, with Danny Rose declining over the past 18 months and Ben Davies having a quiet season.

A rampaging left back much like Rose was in the 2016-17 season would be ideal, and Spurs should send a scout up to Anfield tonight to take a look at a potential target for that exact role.

Porto travel to Merseyside to take on Liverpool in their Champions League tie tonight, and Brazilian left back Alex Telles should certainly be watched by Spurs ahead of a potential summer bid.

Telles, 26, has notched five goals and 10 assists this season having proven himself as a top left back, providing pace, technical ability and outstanding crossing – all attributes Spurs could do with.

Last year, Sky Sports claimed that Spurs admire Telles, and seeing him go up against the feared Liverpool front line of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino would give Spurs a great indication of whether he’s suitable for the Premier League.

Telles has travelled for the game despite missing a couple of games lately through injury, and is expected to be back in the line-up for Porto, helping them as they attempt to stun the Reds.

It’s one thing to admire Telles in Portugal, but another to evaluate him against top Premier League attackers – and for that reason, it would be a great idea for Spurs to send a scout just hours away to Anfield to check out Telles one more time, seeing him in a testing environment both in terms of the talent he’s facing and the atmosphere he’ll be playing in.
